Trama
La Grecia è in guerra con Filippo di Macedonia: Luciano, capitano dell’esercito macedone, ferito durante un’azione d’avanguardia, viene soccorso da Iride, modella di non comune bellezza che posa per lo scultore Prassitele. Ella lo fa trasportare nella casa dello scultore, dove l’ufficiale, essendo guarito della ferita, s’innamora della fanciulla. Prassitele, che fino a quel momento aveva considerato Iride soltanto come una modella, dalla quale traeva ispirazioni nel creare la statua di Afrodite, prova ora un sentimento appassionato per la giovane donna; malgrado le preghiere di Prassitele, Iride fugge con Luciano, che tenta di rientrare all’accampamento greco. Per vendicarsi Prassitele rivela ai soldati greci, che in quel momento sono suoi ospiti, la fuga dei due innamorati, che vengono inseguiti e raggiunti. Luciano, colpito da una freccia, viene creduto morto e abbandonato, mentre Iride è ricondotta nello studio di Prassitele. Disperata, ella investe lo scultore con violente espressioni d’odio e di disprezzo, mentre si concede ad un ufficiale greco. Per dimenticare Luciano Iride si dà a vita dissoluta; passando da un’avventura all’altra. Intanto i Macedoni avanzano e, Prassitele viene ucciso dai soldati, prima che questo misfatto possa venire impedito da chi conosce il valore e la fama dello scultore. Dopo qualche tempo Iride ritorna nella casa di Prassitele e mentre ella sta contemplando l’incompiuta statua di Afrodite, sopraggiunge il redivivo Luciano. Ella si getta nelle sue braccia e gli confessa i propri trascorsi, dopo di che fugge col proposito di uccidersi. Ma Luciano le perdona e le conferma il suo amore.
