Trama
Bastian, un bambino orfano di madre e con un padre dal carattere pratico, è un sognatore. Gli piacciono i libri più avventurosi e fantastici e, una mattina in cui tre compagni di scuola lo infastidiscono per la strada, egli si rifugia da un libraio che, amabilmente, si fa sottrarre uno splendido, vecchio libro. È “La storia che non ha mai fine”. Bastian decide di rifugiarsi nella soffitta della scuola e lì passerà un giorno ed una notte (di uragano), affascinato dalle avventure di Atreyu, un piccolo quanto coraggioso “Cacciatore del bufalo purpureo”. Atreyu è convocato nella Torre d’avorio dai capi del Regno di Fantàsia ed incaricato di trovare il rimedio per salvare l’imperatrice e Fantàsia stessa, che sono minacciati dalla inarrestabile avanzata del “Nulla”. Atreyu dovrà affrontare, armato soltanto di un medaglione-talismano, una serie di imprese e di ostacoli e Bastian ne segue, così, le gesta.
