Trama
Anna, fantesca di un monastero, riesce a far innamorare di sé un giovane ufficiale, Erberto, e dopo essersi appropriata una preziosa collana, fugge con lui. I due vengono arrestati; ma mentre l’ufficiale, accusato di diserzione e di furto, è condannato; la ragazza fugge, senza curarsi di lui. Essa viene affrontata dal fratello di Erberto, che è il boia di Lilla: per punirla del suo cinico contegno, egli le imprime sulla spalla il marchio d’infamia. Fuggito di prigione, Erberto la raggiunge ed erra con lei da un paese all’altro. Quando giungono al castello del conte de la Fère, Anna si fa passare per una perseguitata politica e presenta Erberto come suo fratello. Essa riesce a farsi sposare dal conte e si libera di Erberto, facendolo denunciare. Smascherata per opera del boia di Lilla, essa fugge e dopo varie vicende, entra al servizio del conte di Rochefort, che se ne serve per tenebrose imprese di spionaggio politico. Entrato con nome d’Athos nel corpo dei moschettieri del re, il conte de la Fère, coadiuvato dai tre inseparabili amici, Porthos, Aramis e D’Artagnan, dà la caccia all’avventuriera, che cadrà alla fine nelle loro mani e verrà decapitata dal boia di Lilla. Prima di morire Anna dà prova di sincero pentimento.
