Trama
Alla morte di un ricchissimo duca inglese, i parenti di questi giungono nell’avito castello per assistere all’apertura del testamento, in cui tutti sperano per risolvere i problemi finanziari dovuti alla loro vita dispendiosa e disordinata. Tra la delusione generale, tutte le sostanze dello scomparso sono devolute a una giovane nipote, Barbara, che gli è stata vicina nell’ultimo periodo della sua vita. Prima che il gruppo dei mancati eredi abbandoni il castello, l’improvvisa uccisione di un maggiordomo richiama sul posto un bonario poliziotto locale, il sergente Thorpe, che, in attesa dell’arrivo dell’ispettore Grey di Scotland Yard, trattiene sul posto tutti i convenuti. Giunto l’ispettore, altri tre delitti vengono compiuti tra gli ospiti del castello, senza che le indagini riescano a fornire elementi sufficienti ad incriminare alcuno dei presenti…
