Trama
Autunno 1946. Nei poveri sobborghi di un piccolo villaggio a ovest del Kazah stan vive la famiglia Naidenov, sfollata ai tempi della Grande Guerra Patriottica. Il padre, che una volta faceva il pittore, ha perso la mano al fronte, mentre la madre è morta di tifo. Il piccolo Ivan è rimasto solo.
