Trama
8 settembre 1943: resa delle truppe italiane. Non è la fine della guerra, ma un nuovo e più tragico inizio: l’Italia occupata dai tedeschi, l’esercito disarmato, Re e governo in fuga, centinaia di migliaia di lavoratori precettati in Italia e in Germania. Nasce la Repubblica Sociale Italiana con Mussolini capo di Stato. Tentativi impotenti di una nuova struttura socializzante, nascita e diffusione di un antifascismo organizzato e combattente con inevitabili repressioni nazifasciste. Tornano dalla Germania quattro divisioni, parvenza di esercito dall’armamento incompleto e dalla precaria autonomia. Gli eserciti alleati risalgono l’Italia, si dissolvono le armate tedesche e la Repubblica Sociale, mentre i partigiani danno un efficace contributo al crollo definitivo che travolge lo stesso Mussolini e i collaboratori più stretti.
