Trama
Bliffield e Tom Jones crescono insieme nella casa del Conte Alwart ma con atteggiamenti e posizioni assolutamente diverse. Il primo, erede legittimo, è un ragazzo studioso e preciso. Il secondo, figlio di una prostituta, è vilipeso dai maestri ma si rifà con un brillante successo con le donne. L’ostilità fra i due esplode violenta quando viene combinato, per ordine superiore, il matrimonio tra Bliffield e Sofia Western. Tom è sinceramente innamorato di questa ragazza mentre il suo rivale pensa solo all’eventuale grossa eredità, che verrebbe ad acquistare. Jones viene accusato di aver rubato un gioiello a Sofia. Per questo finisce in prigione. Evade poi con l’aiuto di Black Bess, la banditessa di Londra, e precede Bliffield nella chiesa, dove sposa la sua bella. Jenny Jones, la prostituta del villaggio, svela poi a tutti che i due contendenti sono fratelli e che lei era stata pagata per far credere che Tom fosse suo figlio.
