Trama
Il generale Knowland, della base terrestre missilistica, è in contatto con la stazione spaziale comandata dal colonnello Cromwell sulla quale è giunta la nave Vedetta 5 con a bordo il maggiore Towers ed il capitano Webber che dalla Luna hanno prelevato campioni per delle analisi. Ma presto da terra ci si accorge che sulla piattaforma spaziale è successo qualcosa di terribile: Webber, infatti, è morto, contagiato da un mostruoso fungo lunare e tutti gli altri dell’equipaggio sono minacciati dal medesimo pericolo. Costoro, capeggiati da Towers, si sono ribellati al comandante Cromwell che, in preda ad una crisi di esaurimento nervoso, vorrebbe tenere celata ai terrestri la drammatica situazione. Towers, combattendo contro il tempo e contro l’incubo del fungo, riesce a scoprire che la condizione per lo sviluppo del medesimo è il calore. Aiutato da terra per mezzo di una nube frigorifera artificiale, Towers riesce ad avere ragione del terribile fungo e a ristabilire l’ordine e la tranquillità.
